Older model A5, assembled and in good working order. Built and run by an experienced laser user with a history of Arduino projects like this. Nothing boogered up in the process. Low hours on the laser - used 1-2 hours a day for a week to determine software settings. 2.5 watt blue laser, will engrave wood, bone, etc.

Will cut thin wood and paper. Does not mark or cut metal, acrylic or glass**Engraving anodized aluminum simply burns the dye color off the metal surface. Certain colors of anodizing render the laser ineffective - black works best. You might engrave transparent materials if you coat them first. I use a blue laser like this in a STEM outreach program, where kids cut paper bookmarks or engrave aluminum dogtags.

My STEM laser is built from a dead 3D printer. This kit was bought to evaluate the mechanicals. I'll keep building them from the printers, thank you. Pictures show actual engraving done on this machine. This is one of the earlier A5 laser engravers.

It differs from the current model in several ways: Frame corners are braced. Current model does not use braces.Acrylic panels are shaped differently.Belt anchors are different. The newer model is much easier to set up and tension. Laser mounts with three screws instead of the new slide setup.This control board has a low-power laser button. The low-power button is up on the laser now.This laser has a 2-wire power supply; the current model laser uses 3 wires.Control board mounts to the acrylic end panel, instead of to the frame.

Control board does not seem to run the current firmware/software combo. It can run BenBox if you load the firmware. This laser has been tested with BenBox. This machine is USED and AS-IS. Some details worth noting: A waste board is mounted inside the frame so the laser won't cut or mark the table underneath.There is a bit of smut on the acrylic from smoke, and some marks on the waste board.

USB cord and power supply included. Spare nuts, screws and wrenches provided.Green goggles included: wear them! Use in a well ventilated area away from children and pets.Useful work area is smaller than the name implies - an A5 sheet should be roughly 8.25"x12". The design of the laser limits size to 5"x8"-ish. With the waste board installed, there is about 1" of clearance under the laser.

Remove the waste board for thicker objects. Useful focus range is about 2", which means you can sit the machine on top of an object to engrave it. The roller and timing belt system is no heavy-duty CNC gantry. Do not expect high speed or high precision. It will engrave with no fuss up to 800 mm/min.

Currently set up with grbl1.1. Use LaserGRBL as a control panel, or check the grbl site for alternate interfaces. Grbl 0.9 and higher can use pin 12 to modulate power to the laser. Grbl 1.1 also introduces a laser mode that keeps power constant as the machine slows into corners. This machine is wired for power modulation on pin12 and is configured to use the laser mode.You must provide your own computer.
