Vintage Ideal Portable Electric Etcher/Engraver 11-081C (120V) Parts Or Repair!

I do not know how to test. Plugged in, but red light did not come on. Attached ground clip to the lid, and the light came on. Light was dim on low setting and increased intensity as the setting was increased. Touched etcher tip to underside of lid, and the tip sparked.

Turned the power setting knob to off, turned knob to the number one setting, and light did not come back on. Turned the knob to the highest setting, and the light came back on. At this point l stopped messing with it. So the etcher may work correctly or it may not. That is why I am selling unit for parts or repair.
